Well, it’s been a long minute since we wrote anything here. But we’re back! This time armed with less promises about consistency ;)

A lot has changed since last year… most notably, Reese’s first main lolita piece arrived from western indie brand Belladonna!

It is their super cool Poison Skirt, which Reese would like everyone to know is really pretty and comfortable too. The print is dense with detail, the general concept being a tidy collage of different warning labels for poison. Reese plans to make a Fallout-inspired coord with it someday.

The shopping experience was stellar, too. Reese was able to get the skirt sized a little bigger than what was listed without any hassle, and even with the adjustment, the skirt was shipped out really quickly. Would definitely recommend!

We got to wear coords together when Reese visited Serena in Canada this summer. We saw a fantastic production of Chicago at the Stratford Festival (which is playing until the end of October, by the way, so if you’re around and want to see it… go now!!) Serena wore Angelic Pretty’s Magical Night Theater JSK, which, in her opinion, is one of their most severely underrated prints. Full coord breakdowns in the caption.

reese’s coord — blouse: glitter tale; skirt: belladonna; jewellery, tights, and shoes: offbrand. serena’s coord — headbow: your gift; blouse: angelic pretty; jsk: angelic pretty; otks: angelic pretty; tights, jewellery, and shoes: offbrand.

A lot of dresses have been released in the last year too! Here are our faves (and least fave) of this year’s offerings for autumn.

Sakura Love’s Polar Night Witch

Model posed in a purple and black Halloween-themed lolita dress.

We are both obsessed with this purple Halloween dress by Chinese brand Sakura Love. Just — everything about it is iconic perfection. The colours. The buttons on the torso. The pompoms. The “handkerchief” skirt. 100/10, very likely our favourite dress of the season. Bonus points for the fabulous model photos.

This dress was our first introduction to the brand and it made a strong impression — we definitely want to check out their other work.

Favourites

Metamorphose’s Sacred Magic Item

Green JSK on a mannequin.

Just one year after Metamorphose’s Magical Artefact dropped in 2020, the brand re-released it and lolitas around the world rejoiced. If you missed both releases, though, Meta has your back with their new Sacred Magic Item collection that calls back to the jewel tones and fantasy themes we loved about Magical Artefact. The open fronted tiered skirt adds an extra touch of opulence to the look.

Baby the Stars Shine Bright’s Kumya’s Harvest Festival

Ivory JSK on a mannequin.

The Kumyas strike again! We love this print, especially on JSK I, with the Kumyas charmingly decorating and preparing for a harvest celebration. The sweetheart neckline was an adorable choice for the bodice, and we always love Baby’s custom Kumya lace. Baby never fails to amaze us with how skillfully they blend gorgeous prints with beautiful dress construction. Neither of us are usually apron people, but in this case it’s fitting for the theme and adds a cute touch. (Our one small comment is that the print colours make this dress look a bit Christmasy from afar in contrast with the theme).

Least Favourite

Angelic Pretty’s Happy Treat Party

Lavender OP on a mannequin.

All Serena wants to know is why they decided to give a size range she can fit into to this dress instead of last year’s extremely superior Halloween offering, Moonlight Castle.

Bonus points for the bat collar. One point for the rest of the cool construction that would work better on a winter dress. Love the pompoms.

That’s all from us, folks! What were your favourite releases of the season? Do you love Happy Treat Party? Tell us all about it in the comments!

Happy Halloween 🎃
