#Hashtags 101: Label your transactions to add more detail
In general, hashtags in Spendee were developed with the objective to help you categorize transactions in a more detailed way and also help you with better analysis. There are plenty of ways how #hashtags could work the best for you; it solely depends on your creativity and needs. In this article I would like to show you how to work with them and what the use cases are that can be helpful for you.
How do #hashtags work?
You can add hashtags in the note field when adding your transactions. It helps you to label each of your transactions the way you need it. It can be either used as a subcategory or you can use it more like a label. For example, some of our users are using #lunch, #dinner or #eatingout to label in more detail transactions in their Food & Drink category.
The main advantage compared to using classic notes is that hashtags use our “search whisperer” feature, thus when you start typing, it will automatically show you the list of hashtags you have used in the past and with one click you can choose which one to use this time. This is a major time saver for everyone who adds transactions manually, plus, it helps you maintain a system within your transactions.
How to get more information using hashtags?
The second important advantage of using hashtags instead of just a note is that, you can get all the information in one place about transactions with the same hashtags, such as amount, place, picture, or who paid it. For example, if you have a shared wallet and want to know whether it was you or your husband who paid more for #dinner, you can easily find this information in Overview of your shared wallet. If you scroll down in the “Hashtag” section, by tapping on your selected hashtag, you will be able to see all relevant information about transactions with this same hashtag, thus further analyzing potential problems.
Most popular hashtags to use
1. #Uber or #Taxi
If you wanna know whether it is cheaper to use a taxi or Uber, use hashtags with those transactions and then check the overview to find out.
2. Name of shops
If you are shopping groceries in different shops, you can use hashtags with names of the shops to see where you spend more or when you have more transactions.
3. Name of people you buy gifts

5. Filter vacation or work travel stay

6. Type of meal
Use #breakfast, #lunch or #dinner to label your transactions in the Food & Drink category. You will be able to find out in which subcategory you’re spending too much, thus making it easier to see where you can save some money.
