Summary of the Spherity Podcast‚ Product Passport Pioneers’ — Episode #1 with Torsten Freund, Head of Project Management “Battery Passport”, GBA

The digital product passport (DPP) is regulated for the first time in the ‘new EU Battery regulation’ and proposed in the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation of the European Commission published on March 30, 2022. On this occasion, we are keen to interview the makers of the DPP, who have worked behind the scenes to create the DPP concept and influenced the regulation for reaching the Goals of the European Green Deal. We discuss technical implementations and hurdles, and where it adds business values aside from the regulatory compliance.

In our first Product Passport Pioneers episode, our Chief Innovation & Solution Officer at Spherity, Dr. Susanne Guth-Orlowski, interviews Dr. Torsten Freund, Head of Project Management for the “Battery Passport” at the Global Battery Alliance (GBA). Dr. Torsten Freund has worked for more than 25 years at BASF and since 2020 has been seconded to the GBA, leading the program to develop the GBA Battery Passport for the Electric Vehicle Batteries. The program aims to report all relevant indicators of the new battery regulation.
