So many beer festivals in Denver, but the fest proves to be a draw for Fate Brewing with its smaller, community feel, and exclusive Belgian brews

Fate Brewing’s backstory

We just had our 5th anniversary the beginning of February. We’re a full restaurant, full bar and brew pub. We expanded into Lafayette last year, in October. The idea was originally from our owner. He was a general manager at a restaurant in Boulder and decided he wanted to branch out and start his own thing. He had this idea for a while, and the timing kept not being right for different reasons, but then it all came together at once, the space, the brewer, the chef, so that’s what’s behind the name Fate. The story is incorporated into our logo. Some people see ice picks, but it’s actually the negative space, four arrows coming together.

So many beer festivals these days to promote craft breweries. Why Belgian Brew Fest?

Last year was our first year. I signed us up again because I think the guys are great at Bruz Beers. We have a few Belgian brews on tap. People who wouldn’t normally think of us that way get to try our beers. And last year was great even though there was a blizzard and it was freezing. They still had a great turnout despite the weather. I wanted to work with them again this year because it was so much fun despite the cold. It’s fun to get out to different festivals where people wouldn’t necessarily think of us when they think of Belgian beers.

Taster trays, “intelligent” taps and more; how can events like Belgian Brew Fest and tech marketing apps like Spigot Labs’s Taste Tracker, help promote your brand to the growing audience of craft brew enthusiasts?

The smaller venues gives you more time to connect with the participants one on one. You can talk about your brand, your beer, what else you have going on at the brew pub. Whereas festivals that are 60 or more vendors where the lines are insane, you have no one-on-one time with anyone who has any questions. You’re just pouring beer at that point. So the ability to connect and talk about the beers we have there and our restaurant is great. The taste tracking technology was something to get used to, but once I got the hang of the process it was nice to go in and see the data after the festival. Typically you never get to see the data afterwards from an event. You only get to hear feedback in a rushed environment. This way, there’s a record of all the interest, and a little about the participants.

Lots of work goes into attending these festivals. What’ll make it worth the effort?

Just connecting with a different customer base than we normally do will make it worth the effort to attend. I think this is a smaller, more specific festival for those who like Belgian beers. It’s a very different customer base, a more sophisticated base than we would find at the big festivals. We’ll get to educate this crowd about our brand and what we do.

Brews from Fate Brewing to look forward to at the fest

We’re bringing our Belgian Pale Ale Parcae, a core beer that we always have on tap year-round. We’re also going to bring our Belgian Flanders Red Ale. We brewed that for the Big Beers Festival this year. It was a big hit, sour and delicious.

Your personal favorite brew at the moment

One of my all time favorites that we have here at FATE is our Coffee IPA. It’s our house IPA and we work with a local coffee roaster, Ozo. We use their cold-pressed coffee. I think it’s amazing. One of my favorite rotationals that we have on tap right now is our IRA, India Red Ale. It’s hoppy, easy to drink, and just a really good beer. Everyone seems to love it.

Our annual Belgian Brew Fest is coming up April 28th. Get your tickets now before they sell out! 10+ breweries, food trucks, live bands, killer time!
