Social Media Strategy 101

According to recent studies, there are now 4.2 billion social media users around the world. This figure has grown by 490 million over the past 12 months, delivering year-on-year growth of more than 13%.

The world’s social media users will spend a total of 3.7 trillion hours on social media in 2021 — equivalent to more than 420 million years of combined human existence. This is why having a good social media presence is vital for any brand.

Whether you want to grow your brand through social media or to level up as a social media marketer, developing a social media marketing strategy is essential. Without understanding what your goals are, who your target audience is, and what they want, it’ll be hard to achieve any results on social media.

Creating your social media marketing strategy doesn’t have to be painful. Below we share a few tips on how to create an effective plan for your business:

1. Set goals: The very first question to answer is the Why? Are you on social media to promote your products? To drive traffic to your website? Or to serve your customers?

2. Learn everything you can about your audience: Understanding your target audience will help you more easily answer the following questions on what, where, and when you are going to share.

3. Know your competition: A competitive analysis allows you to have a good sense of what’s expected in your industry, which will help you set social media targets of your own.

4. Set up accounts and improve profiles: Determine where you are going to share your content. In other words, which social media platforms does your brand want to be on? Write out a different mission statement for each network.

5. Find inspiration: While it’s important that your brand be unique, you can still draw inspiration from other businesses that are great on social. Case studies can offer valuable insights that you can apply to your own social media plan.

6. Create a social media content calendar: Sharing great content is essential, of course, but it’s equally important to have a plan in place for when you’ll share content to get the maximum impact.

7. Evaluate and adjust your strategy: Lastly, you need to realize that your social media strategy should be a living document that you review and adjust as needed.
