As we keep working on the end-to-end AR application for nondestructive testing, we share interesting features discovered on the way. In this article, we show the integration of the external device with the HoloLens2 app.

Integration is extremely simple. Web application generates a random number A from 1 to 100 and sends it to Spector which is our core AR platform. Spector in Hololens in turn, reads the (x, y, z) coordinates of the index finger at the moment of receiving this data point (=at the moment of pressing the button), and generates the virtual marker at (x, y, z) with A attached to it.

Any NDT sensor could be put in place of the smartphone which will allow to receive the readings from the measurement device into the AR headset in real-time and save them with the spatial information provided by the headset.

This opens a wider aperture for enriching the virtual environment in the AR glasses with any other useful data obtained from external devices.
