Upstate New York used to be home to five Iroquois nations. We’re not sure which tribe dwelled in our region, but they left behind some incredible stone structures.

According to legend, split stones are gates to the underworld, providing a travel path for spirits from below.

One of the most mysterious places we discovered was a man-made pool surrounded by intriguingly arranged boulders and piles of stones.

My husband was very curious to perform a little excavation, but as soon as he started digging, he claimed he heard a voice.

He’s usually very skeptical regarding “otherworldly” experiences, but this time he put his shovel down. However, he and the Boy loved to take our guests on tours.
