We are excited to announce a partnership between Ivy and Spirals, to make blockchain infrastructure regenerative by design.

Ivy Protocol’s mission is to enable anyone to fund a carbon offset project and completely transform the way carbon projects are brought into existence. At Spirals Protocol, similarly, we believe taking action to address the climate crisis is one of the biggest coordination problems we face today.

Spirals is focused on open governance around high impact project selection, combining both an expert climate committee for reviewing quality and maximize impact, with community input on funding allocation. Working with Ivy will allow the Spirals community to fund future projects more seamlessly and provide liquidity where it moves the needle.

Collaboration roadmap:

  1. Ivy becomes first to use $cUSD pledging through Spirals
  2. New Ivy projects are proposed to Climate Committee
  3. $SPRL holders participate in funding allocation across Ivy projects

What is Spirals?

Spirals Protocol is a lightweight protocol that redirects block rewards into climate impact.

Rewards, rather than being used as profit, are directed into a smart contract governed by all contributors. Collectively, all stakeholders can vote on how vetted, high-quality projects receive funding.

The Spirals ecosystem has 5 key stakeholders:

  • Celo holders can make a climate impact while earning yield.
  • Validators can effortlessly make a climate impact and attract more delegators
  • Climate Experts are elected to a committee, and have authority to add and remove climate projects eligible for support by the Spirals Community
  • Natural Asset Tokens (which are approved by experts) are purchased proportional to member preferences
  • Members hold $SPRL and can vote on funding allocation & climate experts. One becomes a member by earning $SPRL governance through staking, validating, or reviewing projects as a climate expert.

We welcome design partners and conscious collaborators to take what we are building beyond carbon to other environmental and social impact projects. We’re excited by the potential of a programatic, perpetual funding mechanism for public goods to reimagine how, why and where people choose to stake their crypto.

What is Ivy Protocol?

Ivy is a blockchain native solution tackling the core problems of the VCM — the voluntary carbon market — through transparency and liquidity.

Ivy enables anyone to fund early-stage decarbonization projects, resulting in 40x quicker funding cycles and providing offset projects with far greater access to buyers from all over the globe.

Project buyers can pre-purchase future carbon credits effortlessly, growing their portfolio with the most exciting asset of our century: carbon credits.

Project owners receive the early-stage capital and support for their carbon offset project. Ivy connects them with buyers and validators in a fraction of the time, transforming the way they are compensated.

What is $cUSD staking?

$cUSD staking by Spirals is the easiest way to make compounding impact towards climate. We’re currently exclusively working with select partners like Ivy. If you’re interested, please reach out to Helena on telegram (@hmerk).

$cUSD is one of Celo’s chain-native stablecoins, over-collateralized with a diversity of cryptoassets. Celo recently announced the ambitious goal of collateralizing 40% of it with natural assets.
