Dystopia is not the colorless grey or dust brown haze that you think. The truth is dystopia is a frighteningly colourful state that many of us would welcome — if only at first.

If you and I were to take a trip to any dystopic period past, future or present — in many ways we already live in one. You might be surprised if you dare look that it is filled with bright laughing colours and smiling faces.

It is a neat double-trick. With the profitable assistance of glittering Hollywood studios, we deceive ourselves with high-resolution images that portray dystopia as dark grey, covered in brown haze and alluring. In reality, any dystopic society worth the name is anything but bland. It carries a mysterious allure — the marble palace of Circe. That allure, not the drab dusty brown, is the very reason why it makes Hollywood so much money.
