Back in 2009, James Howell threw away a disk containing 8000 Bitcoins in a garbage bag.

Ever since $181 Million has been hiding somewhere within a huge landfill in Newport in southern Wales. It was worth over half a billion at the top of the bull market.

Howell’s unfortunate ‘Honey, can you put the bin outside, please?’, has become known as one of the biggest individual Bitcoin losses in history.

He never gave up dreaming about finding the disk.

And now he’s got a master plan, two investors, and the latest technology. The last hurdle to take is stubborn local authorities.

This is a story of hope, determination and the latest tech.

And what lost Bitcoins can do to a man.

The battle

Howell has been battling with local authorities for over a decade to access the landfill.

They’ve shut down the doors for good for James, as it seems.

But maybe his plans weren’t straightforward or convincing enough. Or tech wasn’t ready enough.
