Will Justin Sun become the Rupert Murdoch of (de)centralized social media on a blockchain?

Steemit, the new Facebook of decentralized content is bought by crypto billionaire Justin Sun. Should we be concerned or will this leapfrog the platform towards a breakthrough and drag all the confused Steemians with it?

According to the price of Steemit on exchanges and backfire on Twitter and Steemit itself, the community is not happy. SBD fell more than 10% following the tweet of founder Nett Scott announcing the sale to the Steemit community.

The tweet states that Steemit wants to lead the way in a new era of decentralized social networking.

It is time to bust some myths.

Sorry guys, but Steemit was never truly decentralized.

The fact that a billionaire founder can buy a complete platform is the opposite of decentralization quite frankly. Decentralization means that nobody owns it but the complete community.

Potentially, this should not be a problem for the success of Steemit in the long term, meaning expensive growth of users and dito content. This acquisition, however, might as well be the stab in the back of Steemit’s community.
