Jesus says birds dont worry about anything and God meets their needs. He says we should do the same.

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? … Matthew 6:26

If you read this verse by itself, it seems to be saying that we should not work, worry about anything, and wait for God to feed us. We are more valuable than birds, after all.

But in the scriptures context is everything. A professor I know says, even the context has a context.

This is toward the end of the Sermon on the Mount. It is a collection of Jesus’ teachings. The thrust of his “sermon” on the mountain that day was that the heart matters more than appearance. The condition of our heart matters more than food or clothing, or anything else we might be concerned about.

He says a lot of radical things. The Pharisees of the day were the religious leaders. They were the authorities on morality and such. Yet Jesus tells the people that to really be righteous you have to do better than they do.
