standing there at the end of the pitch
holding the bat in a relaxed alert posture
with the stumps and keeper behind him
the ball had not yet arrived to do anything
bowler had just started to prepare for his runup
yet his (batsman) mind brought all sorts of thoughts
a little moment is available for him to stabilize
until the bowler releases the bowl from his hands
that little moment to get back the attention
otherwise habitually eaten up by thought-concerns
it is not to empty the monkey mind
but to use it to exercise alertness
enough to let attention stay in itself
no need to empty
those judgemental bastards (i-thoughts) in the head
just being aware of it is enough
after all, to not be aware of them is to be taken over by them
aware that he could afford to be there — here and now —
even when the monkey mind is busy doing what it does
stabilized in that relaxed alert posture
not knowing what might happen
yet the posture is prepared for what may come
he did not hit the ball
it plays all by itself appropriately
better than his monkey mind could ever prepare
— meditation is everywhere.
