Minding the Mind Gains Spiritual Knowledge
“If you mind your mind, everything will fall into place.” Darshak Rana
Minding means paying attention to, consciousness of. Mind means the element of a person that thinks. Some scientists have called minding the mind, “thinking about thinking”. However, these are two separate acts, as Rudolph Steiner explains: “Thinking can notice itself … I can never observe my present thinking itself; only after I have thought can I take the experiences of my thinking process as the object of my thinking. … I can observe my present thinking only in two separate acts.” (From Intuitive Thinking as a Spiritual Path, page 34)
Some of his quotes that I love the most and totally agree with are: “Thinking is essentially a spiritual activity” and “Our thinking is not individual. It is universal”. The conclusion is that the mind is not the brain. The mind is spiritual.
Another way to say it is: the Mind is both observer and the observed. These are pretty powerful actions of the Mind. We conclude that there is Spirit energy involved — and this brings about Spiritual Knowledge with continual experiences of these actions.
What is spiritual knowledge? Generally, knowledge is attained through learning and experiences in physical life. Spiritual being non-physical, spiritual knowledge is not attained through anything in physical life — although one may be inspired by physical life to go after it. You must study your inner mind to begin a path toward spiritual knowledge.
Alan Watts has an interesting observation: “Yes, it may be true that most of us, in our daily lives, think of consciousness as something over and above our physical being — as if your mind were a chauffeur inside your own body.” When you open up to your spiritual nature you realize that it is the Spirit driving you and your body.
Thoreau has another good quote, “A man receives what he’s ready to receive.”
