Write One True Sentence
One true sentence. That’s what Ernest Hemingway said to write. One true sentence.
“All you have to do is write one true sentence. Write the truest sentence that you know.” — Ernest Hemingway
He’s not talking about writing a sentence of fact like, “The sky is blue because of the refraction of light.” He’s talking about writing a sentence of truth to your soul.
Like, “There was a time when I knew unalloyed happiness.” It’s so hard to get to that one true sentence. Or is it?
It is not a technical difficulty. Anyone can write a sentence of fact.
It’s a difficulty of the soul. It’s a willingness to face the pain.
Embrace your pain and you can do anything. Embrace your pain.
