Don’t Stop Believing
How about a test to measure basic human kindness…
Last night I dreamed
that a mythical, tiny, delicate
creature
with wings,
waved her
magic wand
over my head and
presented me with a gift.
She called it a task
of the mind
and the heart.
In my palm, she placed
a flat and strange-looking object.
Less than half the size
of a tiny memo book.
Weighing no more than
a couple of ounces.
Silver in color,
lacking any other
visible markings.
She told me to conceal it
in my pocket
and have it with me
wherever I roamed.
It worked, she said,
for distances up to
one million feet.
Silently it calculates the goodness,
the kindness in people.
