No, You’re Not Too Sensitive
It’s called being empathetically human, and our world needs you now more than ever
A few years ago I decided to try a very specific type of therapy: therapy for HSP, meaning for the Highly Sensitive Person. This label actually exists, so I was curious to explore what the prescription or treatment plan would be for an HSP. Why? Because I had been classified as “too sensitive” by certain people my entire life. From a very young age, I started to believe I had some sort of disability.
The depth and intensity of my feelings were labeled as flaws belonging to a highly sensitive creature; I was treated like I was an alien from a foreign galaxy. Which, most of us are.
So many of us are born into the world and taught that expressing our emotions is a sign of weakness rather than strength. However, repressing emotions and not communicating our authentic feelings is toxic to our mind, body, and spirit.
Despite my many efforts, all-these-feelings-I-feel have never dwindled, they have only gained strength. There came a time when I knew I needed to tune-in to what these feelings were and what they meant.
I stepped into my personal power and began listening to my intuition to find the purpose behind the intensity.
