Raksha Bandhan, also known as Rakhi, is a traditional Hindu festival.
Meaning — The bond of protection and care.
On this day, the sister ties rakhi, or a sacred thread around her brother’s wrist to protect him against the evil influence and offers sweets as a token of love and prays for his long life and happiness. In return, the brother gives his sister a gift and vows to protect her under all circumstances.
History-
There is much historical evidence in Indian history regarding the Hindu festival of Raksha Bandhan.

During the Mahabharata, the great Indian epic, Lord Krishna killed the devil King Shishupal to protect Dharma on earth. But in the fight, he injured his hand. Draupadi, the wife of the Pandavas, tore a piece of her sari and tied it around his injured hand to stop the bleeding. Thus, a bond, that of brother and sister, developed between them. Lord Krishna pledged to repay the debt of gratitude in the future.
