The Lioness
Present and Presence
I am the lioness
Sinewy and steadily
I make my way
Along the woods line
On my left
Aware
Alert
I cross the field
To my right
Stride down the hill
And across the narrow stream
My paws refreshed
Up to my shelter
Greeted by my cubs
We lie together beneath the cave-like overhang
When the rains come
I hold my cubs close
My back to the entrance
Day dawns; sun shines
We rise
We own our space on the land
I am the lioness
Pure physical energy
Poured into this body
Right up to the edges
Of my haunches, my legs
To my padded paws
Right up to the edges
Of my torso and my tail
My tassel too
Right up to the edges
Of my neck and my shoulders
My head, face, and jaw
Filled up with life
Poured in
Filled tight
