How ‘Bout Them Wolverines
Had to say it after they waited so long for redemption
WARNING! Heavily biased report from a fan who is excited because The University of Michigan Football team just beat the University of Alabama in a close game and, as the winner, advanced to the national championship.
Football is only a game, you say. Why get so excited about a game that kids play? The Michigan Wolverines football team was slightly favored in the game but were obviously the underdog according to the “experts” in the media.
Many of the fans who wear Michigan hats and shirts year-round all over the State of Michigan have never been near the university at all. I have heard them referred to as “Walmart Wolverines.”
Why, you may ask? Because they purchase their clothing advertising the University of Michigan from Walmart, instead of the Alumni outlets that they would have if they were U of M graduates.
My degree is from Wayne State University, an urban university in the heart of Detroit. But that does not stop me from being a fan of Michigan sports.
But, that is OK. In these extremely troubled times all around the globe, we need something to feel good about and this gives the stumbling State of Michigan something to rally behind.
