One of the cultural hubs of Brisbane, the Powerhouse plays host to regular events from comedy to cabaret, film, visual arts, dance and theatre. Not to mention their snazzy bar sits on the Brisbane River and makes for a nice spot to kick back with a drink, whether you’re visiting a show or not.

As a cultural hub, we would expect to find some street art at the Brisbane Powerhouse, and we were not disappointed.

Where to Find the Brisbane Powerhouse Street Art

It’s not that complex, but it’s worth noting that there are two spots to visit when looking for the artwork here. If you’re coming from the car park, then your eyes will no doubt lead you directly to the first one; a large wrap-around piece atop some brick thing (no idea) painted in 2017 by Scottie Marsh for the Brisbane Street Art Festival. Check it out before the next festival in May, in case it’s a location up to be painted over.

The second collection of pieces is tucked away. Again, if you’re coming from the car park and go up the stairs toward the entrance, go to your left (before the entrance) and down the stairs toward the water. Walk around here, and you’ll spot a little Nelson Mandela (I think) stencil and a sweet Geisha girl on your way to a larger piece covering the next wall, painted by Cezary Stulgis and Benjamin Reeve.

Artists unknown — do let us know if you know who they are.

Unfortunately, there is not too much else around this area, near the water. The Powerhouse is worth going into as there is often great contemporary artwork on display inside, but for outdoor public art in Brisbane, you will want to head from New Farm toward Fortitude Valley, where more pieces start to pop up.

If you plan to head that way, check out our downloadable Fortitude Valley street art map for a guide to all the good stuff.
