A 5 Minute Visualization to Create Space in Your Life
Manifestation starts with recognizing that you have everything you need, right here and now, to fertilize new growth in your life. New life needs air and light. Perhaps you have taken in so much extra stuff (responsibilities, projects, negative thoughts) that it’s now time to tidy your internal space. This visualization helps you let go of the things in your space that inhibit your movement and block light. This visualization will be greatly improved if you identify one “extra thing” that no longer serves you. Write it down before you begin and write down three visual symbols for it.
I’ve found that guilt often creeps into my internal space and creates clutter in a few ways. I’m often working to clear this energy. Here are my three visual symbols for guilt:
- A furrowed brow (my guilt becomes worry and I wear this on my face).
- A cookie (I have a nervous tendency to eat sweets when I’m feeling guilty — the irony of it all!).
- A child’s sweatshirt (again, a nervous tendency to purchase clothes for my kids when I feel guilty about not spending time with them).
Close your eyes.
Imagine you are surrounded by a thin flexible bubble. It’s a beautiful transparent second skin glowing all around you. Take a deep breath in, hold for a moment, and exhale to stretch the bubble a bit more around you. Take a second deep breath in, hold, exhale, and stretch a bit more. One more time: a big big breath in, hold, and a nice complete exhale, stretching that bubble to create even more space around you.
Sit here for a moment with your breath. Inhale. Exhale. Notice how you feel. Excited? Nervous? Peaceful? Relaxed? How does your bubble change when you sit with your present state? Now look around you and notice there are a number of items surrounding you. It doesn’t matter how relaxed and peaceful you are, we are human, and we accumulate things we don’t need. It’s our job to tidy up every so often, and here we are. Pick up your first item to remove. Hold it up in your mind’s eye, inhale, and then as you exhale it explodes into the mist before you and leaves your bubble. Sit for a moment. Breathe. Now pick up your second item, hold it in your mind’s eye, inhale, and then exhale to make it explode into a mist. Just breathe. Inhale and notice the lightness of having more space in your bubble. Pick up your third item, hold it in your mind’s eye, inhale, then exhale and watch that item evaporate into mist and rise out of your bubble.
Find your breath. Imagine a string on the crown of your head pulling you upright, the muscles of your neck and shoulders release. Your body rests peacefully just where it is. Notice how easy it is just to sit in the golden warmth of your bubble — it is open and spacious, clear and free of debris. Breathe. Say thank you to yourself. Sit quietly with your breath. You don’t need to do anything in this moment but enjoy this space. Appreciate the good work you are doing for yourself by being here now.
When you are ready, wiggle fingers and toes, slowly open your eyes, and sit quietly with your eyes open. Then, look up and begin the next moment of your day.
