YouTube creators are copying their favourite celebrities’ Instagram profiles in a new craze on the social media platform.

The trend, which has been growing steadily since Summer last year, is now at the peak of it’s popularity with YouTube audiences.

The YouTubers select their Instagram idol and copy their photos as closely as they can for a week, documenting the process in a video for their viewers.

Common idols include fellow YouTube stars, the cast of various shows such as Stranger Things and the Kardashians.

The videos offer a high entertainment value as they rush around to try and find the locations their Instagram icons visited for each picture and find matching outfits.

For example, creator Cassie Diamond copied YouTube giant MyLifeAsEva‘s Instagram for a week.

Cassie’s video has generated more than 1.2M views and nearly 3,000 comments.

While not shown in this video, some creators also show the reaction of their Instagram followers to the recreated pictures.

YouTube search interest in the trend began in June last year and has been growing ever since.

It really started to catch steam in November and popularity among YouTube audiences has remained high.

Currently interest is most prevalent in the United Kingdom, followed by the United States.

This means this trend is still likely to grow as other countries’ creators catch onto the craze and produce similar videos.

Copying Instagram videos similarly generates high engagement rates among viewers.

Cassie’s video had an audience engagement rate of 2.5 percent and is one of the best performing videos on her channel in terms of views.

This is a strong point for brand collaborations as the engagement rate is the best indicator of what the click through rate on the content is likely to be — the more engaged the audience is liking and sharing the video, the bigger the chance they will click on a link in the video description.
