YouTube Latest Trends Analysis: Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner and related content is flooding YouTube once again.

From make-up tutorials, costume ideas, DIYs, recipes and hacks, social creators are jumping on the seasonal trend.

Based on last year’s search data, the peak of search interest in these videos will be October 30.

Last year’s related search terms included ‘makeup halloween’, ‘halloween tutorial’, ‘halloween makeup tutorial’, ‘halloween songs’ and ‘halloween kids’.

They are similar to the top five most popular search terms so far this year:

Taking into account the results from last year, and the trends already prevalent this October it seems Halloween makeup themed videos will be the biggest winner.

For example, this video published on October 27, 2016, of a makeup tutorial inspired by the idea of pulling off your face to reveal the demon underneath collected nearly 13M views.

Similar videos this year are also proving popular, this one showing a tutorial for Halloween inspired makeup for the clown in the recently released movie IT, for instance has already gained 1.4M views.

The data also shows the Halloween trend is almost global.

Google Trends — Country density of YouTube searches past 12 months

The countries which searched the term most in the last 30 days include the Philippines, Mexico, Colombia, Canada and Norway.

Last year the countries which searched for Halloween on YouTube the most throughout October 2016 were the Philippines, Albania, Mexico, Ireland and Canada.

With the amount of interest in the topic, Halloween is a viable trend for marketers hoping to generate more reach with their branded videos.

In addition, Halloween can be a good bet to make because although the trend is short lived, it’s return year after year can see views accumulated on older branded videos which become popular again.
