A video format that is proving ever popular with YouTube audiences is the candy taste test challenge.

But based on the search interest in the topic from last year, we predict a spike in these videos throughout February.

The challenge, which involves YouTubers trying different types of foreign candy often with strong comedic value, is normally carried out by the YouTuber and some friends.

Several candy taste test videos are done as crossover videos where YouTubers team up to produce a collaborated video of the challenge.

For example this video showing two American YouTubers trying Mexican sweets is a collaboration between creators Rosanna Pansino and iJustine and it has close to 3M views.

Usually the challenge is themed around one country, for instance, trying German candy or trying Japanese candy.

While foreign candy taste tests are a staple on YouTube throughout the year, it becomes a trending topic at this time of year.

Over the past 12 months the highest interest from audiences in the format was in February with a resurgence over Easter time.

Looking at the latest data on Google Trends, it seems there is likely to be a spike in search interest for the topic again this month.

Google Trends: YouTube search interest in ‘trying foreign candy’ over the past 12 months

As can be seen from the graph above, search interest in ‘trying foreign candy’ has significantly increased over the last week and looks set to reach the same peak as last year over the course of the month.

As YouTubers will have noticed increased popularity in candy taste tests at this time in 2017, it is likely there will also be more videos of the challenge this year compared to last.

Candy taste tests offer a good opportunity for brands to collaborate with creators because of the high entertainment value of the content.

Catching this topic while it’s trending this month will maximise your potential views and deliver a greater chance of your branded video being shared across social media platforms.
