NDTV’s recent report, which showed that there are misplaced files and lost data in the Central Information Commission in Delhi shows the need to look once again at the possibility of moving towards a paperless office to effectuate transparency and accountability. The CIC is after all an ‘independent’ and ‘autonomous’ body set up not only to look into people’s complaints at the PIO and first appellate authority levels, but also to receive information requests for documents in any public authority in any part of the country.
