Spooky Pets 006: Amazing Grace
Happy Spooky Tuesday Everybody!
This week, we heard about Grace, a partially-paralyzed terrier in CA who was discovered dragging herself through the streets. The good samaritan who discovered Grace alerted team at 4 Dogs Farm Rescue who immediately picked her up and checked her in for emergency medial.
From what the attending vet could surmise, Grace had been surviving without use of her hind legs for some time. The leg she was dragging on had worn to the bone and the other leg had recently been lopped off, most likely with a machete and was infected. We really have no idea where Grace came from or how she ended up this way, but regardless, her condition was not good.
Grace was immediately treated for her most threatening conditions. the “machete leg” was amputated, she was given fluids and a transfusion and treated for multiple tick-borne diseases.
Despite how horrible all of this is, Grace’s current prognosis is not too grim. Once she has recovered and stabilized, she will need another amputation. She will also require uterine removal due to pyometra, a severe infection that affects the uterus. The world really tried to take Grace out, but so far it has failed. The team at 4 Dogs Farm tells us she is an energetic terrier with a sweet disposition and temper. And because she survived on her own despite her paralysis, she should be a good candidate for wheels in the future. The hope is that Grace will become adoptable and we would love to help her find a good home when the time comes.
