Hello friends and happy spooky month!

This week, we are featuring a Florida rescue that we’ve been in contact with for a couple of years, Shar Pei Nation Rescue. Shar Pei nation has the very specific purpose of rescuing and rehoming Shar-peis and pei mixes.

Anyone who has a peiby as a pet knows that they are a very special and very particular breed of dog and are predisposed to several medical conditions such as entropion, ear infections and Shar-pei fever. Because of their rarity they are more likely than other dogs to be stolen, and because of the extra care they require, they are also more likely to be abandoned. It’s hard out here for a pei.

The Spooky Pets community as donated $1000 to Shar Pei Nation to help with the care of two Shar-peis who need emergency medical condition for entropion, among other things. If you aren’t familiar with the term, entropion is a condition that effects Shar-peis when their eyelids fold inward. This causes them to be unable to open their eyes and leads to painful uclers, crusting, scratched corneas, infections and ultimately complete blindness. In well maintained dogs, entropion is usually treated with regular cleaning, tacking, and surgery. If intreated, it can be extremely painful and cost a dog it’s vision pretty quickly.

First up, The Notorious DOGG! DOGG is a senior pei mix who was found abandoned in a Florida field suffering from entropion, matting, sores and ear infections. Due to their ear shape, Shar-peis and pei mixes are prone to severe ear infections what can cause deafness. The folks at Shar Pei Nation took in DOGG and had his surgery performed. He’s looking better already, and we are hoping for an update regarding adoptability.

The second dog we had the opportunity to help this week is Eartha Kitt! Eartha was found in a Georgia shelter suffering from severe entropion. The Sar-pei Nation team had Eartha pulled and brought in for surgery in time to spare her eyesight as well. She is a great looking pei, and will also hopefully be adoptable soon.

As always, we‘re linking this blog to a Spooky Pet auction on Crypto.com/NFT. We will donate a portion of proceeds (all earnings over $50 minus transaction fees) from the auction directly to Shar-Pei Nation Resue to help raise funds for Eartha Kitt and the DOGG. If you purchase or win a Spooky Pet, you will be automatically authed into the Spooky Pets community and will get voting rights, access to member perks, and the weekly Spooky Pet newsletter, where we update members on the progress of the project and our previous featured animals. You will also get the opportunity to help us develop the Spooky Pets universe and give life to new Spooky Pets characters like this devilish pei right here:

This week, we’re auctioning Spooky Pet #9931 aka ROBO-PEIBY! The auction will end on Friday October 7th, so get those bids in soon.
