6 Benefits Of Meditation You Can Experience Right Now

1. Peace — reducing our inner conflict. Practicing meditation helps us to find our anchor — something to ground ourselves when we’re experiencing stress in our lives. This sense of calm that we bring to the body and mind helps to reduce our inner conflict and the production of stress hormones such as cortisol.

2. Presence — tuning into the now. The present moment is where we experience our deepest joy, meditation helps us to tune into the now and feel all the sensations of the body that remind us that we are having a human experience when we get caught up in day to day life.

3. Focus — our ability to concentrate. Our minds can become easily distracted, meditation increases our focus because we’re paying attention to one thing — usually the breath — and this helps to reduce our mind’s tendency to become distracted.

4. Clarity — being able to think clearly. The mind is a powerful tool, but we must make time to set it down. Without this much-needed downtime we will find ourselves reacting to everything rather than taking time to form a measured response.

5. Acceptance — releasing resistance. Meditation is a way for us to sit with our thoughts, memories and emotions, being present with ourselves in this way allows us to accept what is and release our desires for things to be different.

6. Detachment — not being owned by our thoughts. Practicing detachment from thoughts reduces overthinking, anxiety and contributes to reducing our stress levels. Detachment is not renouncing all possessions, it’s making sure those possessions don’t own us.
