8 Constructive Positive Perspectives On Failure

1. It doesn’t exist — the only true failure is giving up. We miss 100% of the shots we don’t take and if we quit we can’t take any more shots — don’t give up.

2. Fail forward — learning from mistakes. Our failures are opportunities for us to learn, grow and improve so that we can get to where we want to be.

3. It’s necessary — paying our dues. Failure is the prerequisite to success, it filters out those who are half-hearted from those who are actually hungry for change.

4. Mastery — the master has failed more times than the student has tried. Nobody becomes a master of a craft in one day, it takes years of hard work to become an overnight success.

5. It’s a test — finding out what we’re made of. A true test of one’s character is the way we react to failure — are we going to give up or do we have the resilience to keep pushing forward?

6. Get creative — there’s always another way. If the first approach doesn’t work we can keep trying until we find one way that does. When trying to open a locked door we must try all of the keys we hold & break down the door if they don’t work.

7. Support — finding out who’s really there for us. Hard times reveal our tribe, the people who want us to win will encourage us to try again — those who want to see us fail will emphasise our failures coerce us to quit.

8. Role models — modelling ourselves after the greats. Learning how those who have already accomplished what we aspire to achieve climbed to where they are now gives us the inspiration we need to overcome temporary mental hurdles set in place by failure.

Success is not final, failure is not fatal.
