How To Know If You’ll Achieve Your Goal

Yoda said “there is no try, there is only do” — this means there is no such thing as “I’ll try”. Either it will be done or it won’t. It’s like when asking someone “would you like to go for a run this Tuesday” and they say “umm, yeah — I’ll try and make it” — it’s clear to everyone they’re not coming.

We must apply this same logic to our climb — are we going to make it to the top, or are we going to try? The use of language here implies that there is a defeatist mindset — “I’ll try, but if I don’t make it — at least I tried”. There’s no second place trophy — we either made it to the top of the climb, or we didn’t.

Gary Vaynerchuk says “there’s no half-pregnant” — you either are or you aren’t. Adopt this mindset in relation to the climb — whether it’s getting fit & healthy, writing a book, making more money or finding a relationship — either we’ll do it, or we won’t — there is no in-between stage.

Many things are subjective in life — art, music, food — there are many differing opinions out there and all are equally valid. Turning off the light switch is not subjective — it’s either off or it’s not. The same can be said for success — either we’re going to achieve it, or we aren’t — the choice is ours.

Thinking about the mindset we have towards achieving our end goal allows us to see — are we going to try and achieve it — or are we going to achieve it no matter what it takes? No matter how many years, how much hard work, how many social events we miss — is it going to be done?

Greatness requires sacrifice — what are you willing to sacrifice for your greatness?

Peace & positive vibes.
