How To Take Back Your Power

Do you look forward to your future? Does it inspire you with confidence and excitement to look ahead? Do you feel as though the best is yet to come? There was a point in my life where I was dreading future events and that’s when I realised I had to make some changes.

The journey of personal development has been amazingly rewarding for me because I feel as though I’ve been given my time back. I’m no longer bound to things that no longer serve me and because of this I look forward to what each day will bring.

Think about the coming weeks — is there anything you feel like you’re desperately trying to avoid? Is there an occasion that you “have to” go to? I’d like to invite you to think about this term “have to” and the power you are assigning to it.

When you say “I have to” you are putting a limitation on yourself and this is a fear-based approach to life. Yes, there are some things we have to do — paying taxes, breathing, eating and sleeping. But we do not have to do what others want us to simply because we’re expected to.

I was once part of an extremely toxic group of people and I felt pressured to attend occasions because it would “look bad” if I didn’t. Over time I realised if I wanted to be free of much of the anxiety I felt — I would have to take back my power and do what’s right for me, not what “looks good” to others.

Whatever it is that’s trying to take your power from you — assess it and ask yourself “will I cease to exist if I don’t do this?”. This is a powerful question to ask yourself and it helped me put many things into perspective.

Our lives can be so amazing if we decided to drop everything that no longer serves us and start living for what we love.

Love yourself enough to make the rest of your life the best of your life.
