9 Lifestyle Changes You Can Make To Improve Your Mental Health Today
1. Self-love — prioritising our well-being above all else. Loving ourselves means making sure that our actions will lead to positive emotions and not compromising our beliefs or values for the acceptance, praise or validation of others.
2. Diet — nourishing the body & mind. The body regenerates cells based on what we feed it and the mind creates thoughts based on what we watch, read & listen to. We must ensure that we are feeding ourselves fuel for positivity.
3. Negativity — avoiding unnecessary suffering. Creating inner peace is like caring for a delicate flower — we must cultivate the growing conditions that will nurture its growth. We cannot hope to create inner peace if we are surrounded by reasons to be in conflict.
4. Exercise — moving into the body. Sweating releases toxins that build up in the lymphatic system. Exercising also allows us to release emotions that — if left unexpressed — can manifest in poor mental & physical health.
5. Community — our positive vibe tribe. Spending time with the people who make us feel good is another way of nurturing our flower of inner peace. We are providing the plant with nutritious soil when we spend time with those who love & support us.
6. Mindset — looking through the filter of pronoia. Assessing every situation in life through the lens of “this is happening for my growth” allows us to learn from our experiences instead of stewing on them and becoming resentful — which leads to poor mental health.
7. Meditation — hitting the reset button. Making time to detach from our thoughts each day is essential for creating a positive state of mind because it shows us that we are not our thoughts and they do not control us unless we allow them to.
8. Mindfulness — living in the now. Tuning into the present moment gives us the opportunity to experience our lives instead of watching them pass by through the windows of the past and the future.
9. Passion — doing what we love. Expressing ourselves authentically is how we prevent the manifestation of disease within the mind. This requires us to say yes when we mean yes and no when we mean no without apologising.
