Does Money Equal Success?

I used to flaunt my possession to others with the intention of showing off “Hey, look at me and all this stuff I’ve got. You should feel bad because you don’t have all of this.” I was deriving value from these material items because of the way others responded to me as a result of me having them.

When I reflect on the way I used to behave I see that these habits were not going to help me achieve anything other than living for the opinions of others. My success is not measured in what people think of me — but rather how I think of myself.

As I’ve grown and matured I’ve realised that success does not mean having expensive things — but it is the feeling of accomplishment we gain from doing something that deeply and truly fulfils us.

I would not gain much fulfilment from watching television and therefore I do not associate that act with success. However, I do derive fulfilment from writing — therefore I associate the act with success.

There are many aspects of success and they are all different for each of us — we all resonate with different things. This is not to say that someone is wrong for measuring success in monetary terms — it is simply to suggest that this is not the only way of measuring success.

Happiness is one of the highest forms of success, for me, and therefore I monitor my happiness instead of monetary gain from any activity I engage in. I’d like to invite you to ask yourself what is truly important to you and monitor how much of that you have in your life right now.

If you are far away from achieving that which you seek — move towards things that give you this feeling. If fulfilment is what you want — do what you love and the success will be in alignment with that.

Success isn’t one dimensional — it is different for all of us. Go out there and create your own success story.

Peace & positive vibes
