Reflect Studios to cancel ‘The Last Stop’ & ‘Welcome to the Game: the Recruit’

Reflect Studios the creator of ‘Welcome to The Game 1 & 2’ and the future release of ‘Rides with Strangers’ has announced that they will be leaving the horror game market for the time being due to lack of profitability in this part of the industry. The founder and director of Reflect Studios Adam Flatau announced on Twitter that he will be leading his company into a new direction in the gaming industry focusing on non horror type games and multiplayer games in the hopes of creating a more profitable business model. He has stated that he will still complete ‘Rides with Strangers’ a game Reflect Studios began working on in 2015. He said that he expects to release Rides with Strangers in the coming years with a teaser trailer expected in 2021.

An important update with the future of Reflect Studios

It’s now been a week since the launch of Scrutinized, and we are very happy to see how many people are enjoying it! It’s getting great feedback all around! Getting great exposure on all platforms, and even got some mainstream press! But as far as sales go, it’s not performing as well as we expected, at least compared to the last project of Welcome to the Game II. Simply put people prefer to watch the game far more than they would like to try and play it themself.

With that being said, we have to take that into consideration for our future projects.. And we did. Altho we truly love making horror games and experiences, we feel it will be best if we pivot to another direction, non horror. People play games mostly to unwind, escape and relax and sadly, the games we have been creating don’t quite fit that criteria and we need to adapt. So it is with a heavy heart to announce the following:

Welcome to the Game: The Recruit- CANCELED

Rides with Strangers will be our last horror game we make for the foreseeable future. It will now be the front line for asset creation. This process involves getting all the characters re-done, the scripts re-written, and environment elements recreated. This alone will take at least 6–8 months, so I wouldn’t expect any short of teaser or release date till about next year(2021).

While Rides with Strangers is being worked on, we will be focusing our energy on creating a more accessible game format. Rather it be a more casual single player experience or a multiplayer game.

I know some of you might be upset to hear this, and trust us when we say this, so are we, but we have to adapt to the market if we want to continue making video games.
