Jeffrey Lee — Spores Network’s Chief Art Curator

Born in Taipei, and raised in New York City, Jeffrey seems to have been destined for the art world since birth. His mother started working as a gallery assistant in Taipei Lung Men Art Gallery in 1978 (same year Jeffrey was born), and she would eventually take full ownership of the gallery. Much of Jeffrey’s childhood memories consists of roaming around galleries and artists’ studios both near and far. Although he had ambitions of becoming a professional artist someday, Jeffrey ultimately decided to attend the University of Southern California, where he studied Business and Communication, but maintained his passion for art by frequenting museums and galleries wherever he travelled.

Shortly after graduating from USC, Jeffrey worked for The Capital Group/American Funds, where he learned the basics of wealth management. He then took those lessons and returned to Asia where he began his now 18+ year career in the art industry, first as an auction specialist for Beijing Hanhai Auction Co., and later Sotheby’s New York and Hong Kong. In 2010, he decided to leave the auction world and took on the role of gallery director for Shanghai Longmen Art Projects. In early 2021, Jeffrey took the initiative to expand and transform his business to collaborate with a new breed of creators and clients, launching LMG+, an art consultancy that thinks Art Outside the Box, and as fate would have it, that’s when he delved into the world of NFTs.

2021 has been a breakout year for Non-Fungible Tokens. For the first time in history, the crypto and art worlds have come together (and oftentimes clashed) due to the recent boom of NFTs. Social and mainstream media further propelled the spectacle, with the art world gawking at the astronomical prices achieved by previously unknown (to them) artists, and in the crypto world, all the “hodlers” rejoicing in their clairvoyance, sending shockwave after shockwave through both communities. Since then, both worlds have collectively stepped back from all the speculation and hype, instead are focusing on more long-term and sustainable strategies. The daily barrage of “hot drops” on certain marketplaces have receded to more thoughtful and managed presentations that are more appealing to both artists and collectors, and most importantly, healthier for the market.

With over 18 years of experience in the traditional fine art industry, Jeffrey has always believed in the value of curation and emphasis on individual artists and their unique stories. Utilizing his knowledge and network, as well as his physical exhibition venue, Spores Network will be able to host regular, offline opening receptions full of cheerful guests and lots and lots of art; as well as online presentations of thematic single artist and group shows via the Spores Virtual Museum. Spores Network offers our deep understanding and multi-disciplinary expertise and aims to refine taste and value of NFT art for both the art and crypto worlds.
