A striking story

To most bowing is not a sport, I would not agree with that statement. Bowling is a very popular sport among people who may not be able to play a physically demanding sport. The PBA was founded 1946. PBA stands for Professional Bowling Association. It is a league of the best of the best when it comes to bowling. Currently the best bowler in the world is Jason Belmonte. He was born Orange, Australia. He is 35 years old, he has a wife and 3 kids.

The game of bowling is such an enjoyable sport because it can be a versatile sport. Everyone has a different ball, shoes, approach and much more. There are 2 main styles of bowling, 1 handed and 2 handed bowling. Personally my main style is 2 handed but if needed to I can bowl 1 handed I just don’t preform as well.

The main differences between 1 handed and 2 handed is the amount of power and hook you put on the ball. When one bowls 2 handed you can put much more power on the ball, this causes more pin action which allows a bowler to become less accurate with out losing a chance to not get a strike. If a ball has more power it is going to have more of an explosion when it hits the pins. When one bowls 2 handed they apply more hook to the ball, this gives the ball more chances to nail the pocket.

Bowling is a large team sport. In high school bowling which is what I do, you have the chance to bowl 3 individual games and 4 games of baker. This would be the classic high school bowling tournament. The 3 individual games are just normal games you bowl alone with the other players. For bowling meet it is set up league still. This means that every frame you switch between the 2 lanes that you were placed on. Baker style bowling is when bowling truly becomes a big team sport.

Baker is when 5 players bowl one game at a team. Once the coach or captain selects the order you can’t change it. So the 1st bowler would bowl the 1st and 6th frame, the 2nd bowler does the 2nd and 7th frame, and it follows this pattern to the 10th frame. Generally the best bowler on the team would bowl in the last position, this player is normally called the anchor cause they can make or break the game. The anchor has to be the best bowler on the team because they bowl the 10th frame. This is the most important frame because there is a chance to bowl 3 strikes in one frame.

It is very uncommon for a bowler to not have his or her own equipment. Its like having your own car, you can customize it how you want it and for you needs. It’s the same with a bowling a ball. There are hundreds if not thousands of different types of balls. The difference is where the weight inside of the ball is placed. If your a left hander and you want your ball to hook a lot you want your weight on the left side of the ball. This will give the ball more motion and ability to hook on the oil. Most bowlers don’t release this but the smallest types of changes move your ball a different way.

Some would argue that your approach is the most important aspect of bowling. It can give you more or less power depending on what your type of throw is. So if your 2 handed usually you would want a faster approach so if you want your bowling ball to have a stronger hook you will want a faster approach. It varies upon 1 handed bowlers because some prefer a slow approach but some 1 handed bowlers have a faster approach because their ball speed is very fast so they get more pin action.

Just a couple days ago for my school bowling team, we traveled to regionals as a team. This is the competition that all the teams compete for to get to the state championship. As a team we got 6th out of 15 teams. Individually one bowler from our team made it to state. His name is Mike Anderson and he has been bowling since he was 1 years old. He travels across the country for bowling tournaments and he could probably go to college for bowling if he truly wanted to. 15 bowlers made it to state out of around 200. He got the 15th spot which is the last spot. He is still going to state so it doesn’t matter.
