March Madness brings many people that don’t usually watch basketball into the sport like myself. This NCAA Division mens and women's tournament all started back in 1939 and has been going on every year since then. Some basic information about March Madness is that it starts on the second week of march and that it goes until the first week of April, these tournaments determine the national champs of college basketball. Another thing about march madness is that it is a single-elimination tournament which means if a team loses a game they cannot win the championship.

The History of March Madness

This all started when a man by the man of Henry V. Porter (High School Official) referred basketball to March Madness in 1939, but this did not get informed to the NCAA tournament until a CBS broadcaster Brent Musburger( Sportswriter in Chicago) used it during the 1982 tournament. The first tournament consisted of eight teams at first and Oregon beat Ohio State 46–33 for the first win in what is called March Madness.

In 1951 the amount of teams that where able to play doubled to 16 and kept on growing over the few decades. when everything was still starting up the first ever Women's tournament started in 1982, they stared with 32 teams instead of the 16 teams like the Mens tournament. The Women’s tournament then started playing with 64 teams before the 1994 season ended.

Brackets

of the 68 teams 32 teams go to the champions of the division one conferences with 31 of those being winners of postseason tournaments , the Ivy league gives its bids to the team that wins the regular season title. the remaining 36 spot are filled by at large bids invitations awarded by selection committee made up of conference commissioners, and athletic directors throughout division one the committee makes its selections based a myriad of factors with the results that are always highly debated them the selection. committee then ranks the teams then splits them into four regions with 16 teams in each the seeding process just as complex as the selection process. once the tournament field is set the bracket is revealed to the rest of the country on Selection Sunday, then the tournament starts just two days later in Dayton, Ohio and that is where the first four games are held. once the teams make it into the sweet 16 then they fight of the chance to make it into the Elite Eight and then they try for the Final four and them finally after three weeks and 66 games disappointment and happiness two teams play for the championship

Money

The AGA study shows roughly 19 percent of all Americans will place a bid on the annual NCAA basketball tournament, the study shows that about 47 million Americans will join in to place bids they will make about $8.5 billion dollars from just bids and how much people take part in this yearly activity.

Perfect Bracket

About 10% of people that fill out a bracket will get a perfect one, if you do get guess the winner of each of the tournament’s 63 games and win $1 million dollars every year for life but the chance of that actually happening is vey little because there are to many people that fills a bracket out and most of them would get it wrong or just there isn't a high chance of them getting it all right. March Madness is is the longest three weekend to most basketball fans but there are roughly 100 million people that will watch this yearly event and this tournament is played across 14 cities. Most millennials will be willing to miss work deadline because of March madness.

My experiences with March Madness

well when this first started I was actually to see who was going to win and what kind of brackets were made from my friends because they are big sports fans and they always enjoy to do this kind of stuff. in my school they played the game during lunch time so all of us students could watch the game and think that this was good for everyone because it had a chance for all of the students to come together and watch the game together. some other thing that I enjoyed about watching the game in school was because some of my teachers that took part in this event where watching the game in class while we where doing homework and they did nit care if us the students watched a little bight of the game during class when we got things done. So all in all March Madness is a good and bad thing the good is because we all have fun watching the games and have fun talking about who we all think is going to win it all and then the bad of March Madness is the amount of money that is spent for this game and how mad many people will get for this event, but so far all my experiences with this is all good.
