Freshman Admission to Begin Fall 2021

Beginning in the Fall 2021 semester, the KU Sport Management program will begin accepting first semester freshman into the Sport Management undergraduate major. In the past, students could declare pre-sport management as their major but could not officially be accepted into the program until their sophomore or junior year. We’re very excited to welcome a new group of freshman Jayhawks this fall! The requirements for freshman admission are below (students already enrolled at the University of Kansas can follow the same guidelines from the previous catalog).

Freshman Admission

Students can be admitted to the Sport Management program as incoming freshman if they meet the following criteria:

1. Admitted to KU and declare Sport Management as their major

2. Have a 24 ACT/1160 SAT (or higher) and 3.0 HS GPA OR 3.5 HS GPA OR 28 ACT (or higher)

3. Students that don’t meet the requirements above can petition using the same process used by KU: (a) A formal letter of appeal explaining extenuating circumstances that contributed to their previous academic experience, why the student believes they will be successful at KU and any other information that they would like the committee to know about them. (b) A letter of recommendation written by someone that can address the student’s academic abilities.

Post-Freshman/Transfer Admission

Students will be considered for admission after their freshman year and as transfer students using the same current procedures AND:

1. Two-page response paper based on a current issue in sport management

2. A letter of application (roughly 1–2 pages) that includes (1.) why they want to be a sport management major, (2) their experience in sport management thus far, (3) and how the sport management major will help them achieve their professional goals

3. A professional resume (developed in HSES 299)

4. B or better in both HSES 289 and HSES 299

5. Positive recommendation from the instructors of both HSES 289 and HSES 299

6. Candidates will be ranked and admitted until available spots are filled in the major. The number of available spots for Secondary Admission will be determined each year by the faculty based on the resources provided by SOEHS.
