Europa League: Mourinho to banish blues with win over Rostov

Jose Mourinho hasn’t enjoyed the best of weeks — after a long, gruelling trip to Russia to play on a poor pitch only yielded a 1–1 draw with Rostov last Thursday, his Manchester United side were knocked out of the FA Cup by former side Chelsea on Monday.

Mourinho was taunted by his former fans at Stamford Bridge, and technical difficulties meant his side had to get the coach back from London rather than a plane — arriving in Manchester at 5am.

United will be relieved to be back at Old Trafford this evening, in what is looking an important second-leg tie against Rostov.

With the top four in the Premier League looking unlikely, and the FA Cup dream over, the Europa League now represents United’s best chance of more silverware this term, as well as a route into the Champions League.

They’ll be buoyed by the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic from a rare rest — he is suspended for domestic matches but available in Europe.

The Swede has five in the Europa League so far, and is 3.00 with to open the scoring tonight.

His United team-mates are a short price against a Rostov team who won’t have played many times on a stage like this, though they did hold their own in difficult circumstances last week.

United are 1.22 to win — something that should be pretty certain as Mourinho attempts to banish this week’s blues.
