Football is without doubt the biggest and most popular sport in the world, so betting on it is the main focus for the majority of sportsbooks.

Domestic games from the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga and Serie A can offer as many as 200 markets at a time, so choosing the right ones can be tricky.

Usually all bets count for normal time only, unless stated otherwise. The most popular bets are Match Result, Double Chance, Draw No Bet, Both Teams to Score, Asian Handicaps and Over/Under bets.

Here, Sportsbet.io gives you an insight into these markets!

Match Result

This is the most common and easiest way to understand football betting. To win, you simply have to predict the game’s full time result.

Example: It’s Sunderland against Arsenal on Saturday. You can either back the Black Cats to win at 7.25, Arsenal to come out on top at 1.40 or the draw at 4.95.

Double Chance

You can choose from three selections (Home/Draw; Away/Draw; Home/Away), but the outcome probability is way bigger. Meaning, the odds are significantly lowered.

Example: Champions Leicester City travel to in-form Tottenham on Saturday. The Double Chance bets are as follows: Tottenham or Draw 1.15; Leicester City or Draw 2.00 and Tottenham or Leicester 1.22.

Draw No Bet

Draw No Bet simply eliminates the draw from the available selections. If the game in question ends in a draw, your stake will be refunded.

Example: Crystal Palace entertain Liverpool at Selhurst Park and the Draw No Bet odds are Palace 3.45 and Liverpool 1.30. If the game ends in a draw, the bookmaker will refund your stake.

Both Teams To Score

Very simple. If you choose Both Teams To Score — YES — and they both score, then you win! Or if you plump for Both Teams To Score — NO — and either one or neither scores… you win!

Example: Manchester City travel to West Brom on Saturday. Both Teams To Score, YES, is 2.00… while NO is 1.75.

Asian Handicap

The main advantage of AH is that the draw result is eliminated. In the standard bet, the possibilities of each outcome is 33%.

Asian handicap betting offers the underdog of the game with an early lead before the kick off. You have two options. Betting on home or away.

Example: Manchester United host Burnley and you want to bet on the home side with Asian Handicap -2 at 2.05.

  • 1. United win by more than two goals. The selection wins and we get full payout for our stake.
  • 2. United win by exactly two goals. We are refunded our stake.
  • 3. United win by one, it ends in a draw or Burnley win. Our bet losses.

Goals

Goals, of course, are attracting most attention among the Over/Under bets. Usually 2.5 is used as a condition to define a low-scoring and high-scoring game. A great thing about similar bets is that it doesn’t matter which team is attacking, you always root for a goal.

Example: Middlesbrough take on Bournemouth on Saturday, with many predicting goals, goals, goals. Over 2.5 is 2.25, so if three goals or more are scored at the Riverside, then the bet wins.
