London rivals to share points as Chelsea take on West Ham

The final match of the opening weekend of the Premier League season sees Chelsea take on West Ham, in what should be an absorbing Monday night match at Stamford Bridge.

There’s not much love lost between the two London clubs, and both will hope to put down a marker for a successful season tonight.

Chelsea’s implosion last season has led to wholesale changes at the club. Former Italy and Juventus boss Antonio Conte arrives as manager, and he’s brought in marquee signings Michy Batshuayi and N’Golo Kante.

New signing N’Golo Kante is expected to start for Chelsea against West Ham

West Ham had a far more successful campaign last time out, and will want to push on after finishing seventh. They’ve made some smart signings for their move into the Olympic Stadium — but more importantly, they’ve managed to hold onto Dimitri Payet.

Chelsea have dominated recent meetings with West Ham, only losing twice in their last 21 games, but I can see this being a pulsating draw.

Sportsbet.io make it 4.19 for the points to be shared, which I like the look of.

Last year the match between these two finished 2–2, and a repeat of that is 17.33.

Cesc Fabregas netted a late equaliser as Chelsea drew 2–2 with West Ham in March

Chelsea only won five times at home last year, with five defeats and nine draws. A point against West Ham won’t be a disaster — especially considering how The Blues began last term.

Both teams are top-heavy and better offensively than they are at the back, and in this first match of the season I think they’ll both try to lay down the gauntlet and attack.

The 2.96 for over 3.5 goals with Sportsbet.io is a bet worth backing.
