NFL picks: Back the Green Bay Packers to get the better of Dallas Cowboys
The divisional round of the play-offs get underway this weekend in what is usually the best round of football in the year.
Undoubtedly, the pick of the games come from the AT&T Stadium as the Dallas Cowboys host the Green Bay Packers.
This will be the second time the teams have met this season, with the Cowboys holding the advantage following a dominant 30–16 victory at Lambeau Field in Week 6.
However, the Packers won the previous five matches between the two sides, including a 26–21 win in the divisional round in January 2015.
Green Bay’s strengths lie in their offense, whereas Dallas’ defense has been superb in recent weeks despite missing key players through injuries or suspension.
The Packers are in scintillating form having won seven on the bounce and made light work of a usually-resilient New York Giants defense last week, romping to a 38–13 victory.
However, they’ll need all big players to be on top of the game if they are to defeat the Cowboys, so step forward- QB Aaron Rodgers.
With 362 yards and four touchdowns in the win over the Giants, Rodgers became the first player to record five playoff games of at least 300 yards.
The Packers were dealt a blow following the news wide receiver Jordy Nelson will miss the game through injury.
Nelson has been the Packers’ top pass-catcher this season and is likely to be a big miss. However, Rodgers has plenty of other weapons at his disposal.
Randall Cobb seems to be hitting his best form at the right time, scoring three-touchdowns against the Giants.
It doesn’t seem to matter who is on the flanks for the Packers at the moment though, Rodgers is likely to find them.
He’s in unstoppable form, and 22 touchdowns with zero interceptions in the past eight games is testament to why he’s considered the best QB on the planet.
Their opponents, Dallas, have been the best team in the NFL this season along with the Patriots.
However, in-season form doesn’t always translate through the post-season.
Quarterback Dak Prescott running back Ezekial Elliot have led the Cowboys in a fantastic season. Nothing seems to have fazed the rookies yet.
However, this weekend provides a step into uncharted territory for both players- will they be able to deal with the pressure on the bigger play-off stage?
Ironically, for the Cowboys, the key to stopping Rodgers will be in attack, rather than defence.
The longer Prescott and Elliot are able to keep Rodgers and Co off the field, the greater chance they have of winning.
Both teams have strong offensive lines, whilst the Cowboys have a less erratic defense compared to the Packers.
Then again, Green Bay have Aaron Rodgers. I can’t see a strong Dallas stopping the brilliant quarterback this weekend.
I think he’ll propel his team to yet another victory as they upset the odds here. I’ll be backing them at 2.75 with Sportsbet.io.
If you’re feeling brave enough, I’d back a Pittsburgh Steelers side to come out on top against the Kansas City Chiefs, combining both as a double.
