European heavyweights Italy and Spain go head-to-head in what looks the biggest and best of Thursday’s World Cup qualifiers.

Both have changed managers since Euro 2016 ended, with former Torino boss Giampiero Ventura taking over at Italy and Julen Lopetegiu for Spain.

It will be a game neither manager will be wanting to lose, but stats suggest it’s worth siding with Spain to come away with three points.

Lopetegui’s previous experience with Spain’s Under 19, under 20 and under 21 sides is key

The Spaniards have only lost one of their previous six matches against Italy and with 10 goals in their previous two matches, they look a dangerous side.

Italy will of course be buoyed by the fact they have won six of their last nine matches, but the absence of Giorgio Chiellini to injury is a big one and could be costly.

As previously mentioned, both nations have new managers, but Lopetegui’s previous experience with Spain’s Under 19, under 20 and under 21 sides will help him fit in much faster.

Those players he managed in their youth are now breaking into the senior squad and that can help Spain leave Italy with maximum points.

Sportsbet.io offer 2.51 for Spain and that looks the bet of the night.
