Week 12 Best Bets — Picks & Predictions

The SportsJaw staff writers have broken down the early lines for Week 12 of College Football betting odds and like every week have uncovered a handful of games that are jumping off the page. Week 11 was loaded with chalk but was another profitable week for our weekly Best Bets, finishing 3–1 on the week. Week 12 of the college football season features two matchups between ranked teams, and both are in the Pac-12 conference, but our writers aren’t looking to the Pac 12 this week to cash in, instead this week’s best bets are coming out of the ACC, Big 12, and the Sun Belt Conference. Here are three early best bets that deserve your full attention — TCU -3 vs Baylor, Duke +8 at Pittsburgh and Coastal Carolina +4 at Virginia.

Be sure and lock in your best bets early as these lines are likely to move against you by the time these game kick off.

TCU vs Baylor Best Bet — WEEK 12

#4 TCU -3 at Baylor
November 19th, 2022, 12:00PM ET

The undefeated TCU Horned Frogs and the Baylor Bears clash Saturday in college football action at McLane Stadium in Waco, TX. TCU is fresh off a big victory over the Longhorns winning 17–10, but it was a game TCU dominated in the second half. As for Baylor, they played Kansas State in their last outing and turned the ball over 4 times in a blowout loss.

Baylor turned the ball over 4 times against K. State and their offense never got untracked as the Wildcats led by QB Will Howard was just too much to handle. Prior to the loss the K. State, the Bears blew out a descent Texas Tech team but then lost to a bad West Virginia team. Baylor went 3–1 over its first four games this year, beating Albany, Texas State and Iowa State. After losing to Oklahoma State and West Virginia, the Bears beat KU, Texas Tech and Oklahoma Sooners.

Staff Prediction

I’m not ready to back the Bears in this spot, which at TCU -3 is almost a pick em’, because last week, the Frogs showed the country that they were for real when they went into Austin and beat the Longhorns 17–10. TCU’s defense shut out Texas in the 2nd half only giving up a late scoop and score that made the final score closer than it really should have been. This might be a letdown spot for the Frogs, but I think last week’s Texas game was proof that TCU was legit. The Bears just lost to WVU and just got blown out by K. State, so I’m choosing to stick with the Frogs here on the low line as I really expected this line to be closer to TCU -6 or -7. Score Prediction: Horned Frogs 38 to Bears 28.

Best Bet: TCU -3

Duke vs. Pittsburgh Week 12 Best Bet

Duke +8 at Pittsburgh
November 19th, 2022, 12:00PM ET

With a record of 7–3, Duke comes into this game with a winning record. During their last game, the Blue Devils defeated the Virginia Tech Hokies by a score of 24–7. Duke had a horrendous first half against Virginia Tech failing to score inside the red zone and turning over the bowl, but the Blue Devils got it going in the 2nd half. Riley Leonard completed 19/31 with 262 yards and 2 touchdowns through the air. His QB rating was 147.1 and he had 1 pick in the contest.

In their last match against the Virginia Cavaliers, Pittsburgh won by a final score of 37–7. They are 6–4 on the year. He kept the defense off the field with no picks and his Y/A was 8.7. During the game, Kedon Slovis (1 TD) threw for 208 yards on 14/24 passing. He finished the game with a QB rating of 144.9.

Staff Prediction

Duke got off to a slow start last week against Virginia Tech failing to convert on 3 trips to the red zone, but played better in 2nd half and ultimately won 24–7. On the other side Pittsburgh steam rolled Virgina (but who doesn’t) by a score of 37–7. Pittsurgh is a a descent team at 6–4 but not a top shelf team and I don’t believe they deserve to be 8 point favorites in this spot against a big Duke team that can control line of scrimmate. Duke also has a great defense ranked 44th in the country. This will be a great matchup and wouldn’t be surprised to see the Blue Devils win this game outright. I predict a score of Blue Devils 27 to Panthers 31.

Best Bet: Duke +8

Coastal Carolina vs Virginia Week 12 Best Bet

Coastal Carolina +4 at Virginia
November 19th, 2022, 3:30PM ET

The Chanticleers have a record of 9–1 for the season. They won their last game by a final score of 26–23 against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. On the ground, CJ Beasley led the Chanticleers with 4 carries for 68 yards (17.0 yards per carry). His QB rate was 119.2. He finished with 2 interceptions. It took the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 42 attempts to gain 170 yards, or 4.0 yards per carry. There were 57 plays in the game, resulting in 361 yards. The Chanticleers allowed 20 pass completions on 38 attempts for 313 yards, and a completion rate of 52.6%.

A record of 3–7 for the Cavaliers this season awaits them in this matchup. Last time they played, the Cavaliers lost 37–7 to the Pittsburgh Panthers. Virginia’s Mike Hollins carried the ball 8 times for 23 yards, averaging 2.9 yards per carry. Brennan Armstrong (1 TD) threw two picks and averaged 4.6 yards per attempt on 17/33 attempts. He threw 152 yards on 17/33 attempts. He completed the game with an 88.1 QB rating.

Staff Prediction

Virginia is only 3–7 on the season and while they play in a tougher conference, I think this 9–1 Coastal Carolina team is still the better team, and that’s not based on records there, that’s just based on how pathetic Virginia’s offense has been all season. I’m just not ready to lay 4 points here to this Virginia team that owns one of the worste 122nd ranked) offense in the country. Wrong team favored here, I like Coastal to keep it rolling and pick up the road win this weekend against Virginia team that has a hard time scoring points.

Best Bet: Coastal Carolina +4
