Sam Betten Leads World Class Race in Robina
One of Australia’s largest triathlon series, the Gatorade Triathlon Series (presented by Scody) will return to Robina this weekend and play host to a world class field of athletes.
Leading the world-class field is SportsMed Ambassador Sam Betten, who recently ranked 8th at the 2014 ITU Long Distance World Championships held in China. Sam, who is a previous winner of the Gatorade Tri-Series, is excited to be back at the event where his triathlon career originally kicked off.
Gatorade QTS is a nostalgic event for me and I love coming back to compete at a grass roots level. I remember coming to Robina as a 13 year old and after the bike leg I couldn’t find where I had left my shoes in transition. It took a good 3 minutes to find them and start the run leg! Betten said.
Since then Sam has come a long way, easily cementing his place as one of Australia’s youngest and most prominent elite triathletes.
After a tough few weeks of intense training I’ve had a few days off recently and it will be my first race of the year so I can’t wait to see how I go this weekend. It’s always a good field at the Gatorade QTS races so it will also be give me a good indication of where I am at compared with the other guys, explained Betten.
His tactics for the weekend?
Go hard on the bike with the fast Robina course and see if I can hold on in the run!
