Buccaneers Proudly Unveil “Days Since a Jameis Winston Accusation” Sign Outside Team Facility

TAMPA — The Buccaneers unveiled a digital sign with outside its facility at 1 Buccaneer Place in Tampa today that will keep everyone abreast of the time since the No. 1 overall pick has been accused of wrongdoing.
“We keep getting questions about Jameis’ character and behavior and we want to let people know that we haven’t witnessed anything bad at all so far,” said GM Jason Licht, of the player drafted 34 days ago. “There hasn’t been a single rape or theft accusation since he got here. It’s been great.”
Licht and other Tampa staffers have been going out of their way since the NFL Draft to tell reporters that Winston is behaving and working hard. But they hope the sign will illustrate that point and answer the question before the media even enter’s the facility.
“I see it as both a service to the media and as a way for us to boast that maybe our pick of Jameis wasn’t so foolish after all,” said head coach Lovie Smith.
The team stressed that the sign’s clock will only reset after felony accusations investigated by policy. Misdemeanors or serious allegations that don’t draw police inquiries will no affect the running tally of days.
Winston said he appreciate the sign.
“I see it has enough space for two digits,” he said. “I really appreciate their faith in me.”
The Buccaneers have started the sign’s “clock” at zero because, according to a team spokesman: “We didn’t really want to look too much into things and find out if maybe there’s been some recent stuff, you know? We’re content with our current impression that there haven’t been any new incidents and we’ll just start it today. We’ve found that victims can be extremely biased in their recollections of events.”
