Matthew Dellavedova Says He Can Win a Title with Just LeBron at His Side
CLEVELAND — Australian basketball superstar Matthew Dellavedova has seen his Cleveland Cavaliers team lose Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving to injury this season, yet the team is still contending in the NBA Finals — and he thinks they have a shot to win it all.
“Sure, I think we’re a better team with everyone healthy,” said the second-year point guard. “But I’m confident I can carry this team to a title as long as I can keep getting a solid contribution every night from LeBron James.”
While everyone talked about Dellavedova’s game-winning free throws and defensive harassment of NBA MVP Steph Curry, Dellavedova made sure to remind reporters after the game of James’ contributions, as well.
“I get so much attention around here because I’ve been here longer than LeBron, but I want you all to take a look at the stat sheet from tonight,” he said. “It wasn’t all me. People think LeBron James isn’t much of an asset because he’s lost three Finals, but I see a lot of good stuff in him and I think he can help me do something special here in my adopted hometown.”
James said he is happy to contribute in any way he can.
“We’re all just kind of drafting off of Matthew at this point,” said James. “Whatever he needs me to be, whatever he needs me to do, I’ll try my best. You don’t know how many opportunities you’ll get in your life to play for a championship on a team with a player the caliber of Matthew Dellavedova. I want to make the most of it.”
Dellavedova said he would like LeBron to chip in for Game 3 with 55 points, 20 rebounds, 15 assists and 10 blocks.
