The Heisman trophy is the most prestigious award a collegiate football player can win. It is usually reserved for the “best” overall player and typically means the winner will have an opportunity at an NFL career. It’s historically been awarded to Quarter Backs (QB) or Running Backs (RB) but two tight ends and three receivers have won the award. It has 85 unique winners of the 86 total winners, only Archie Griffin from The Ohio State University won the award twice. The same school has had back to back Heisman winners 5x and Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Notre Dame lead all schools with 7 winners each.

In the past few years players like QB’s Baker Mayfield and Lamar Jackson, and RB Derrick Henry have all took home this prestigious award and have gone onto have strong, young careers in the NFL. It doesn’t mean they are sure-fire pro-bowlers but it does mean they were the best player in college during that year. This week a rare thing occurred as a quarterback did not win the Heisman trophy. Alabama wide receiver Devonta Smith edged out Trevor Lawrence (Clemson QB), Mac Jones (Alabama QB), and Kyle Trask (Florida QB). It was well deserved as his season stats so far are 105 catches for 1,641 yards and 20 touchdowns. To be completely honest I am hopeful my Philadelphia Eagles draft him. All…
