8 high school football players have died this year due to on-the-field injuries

It’s been a deadly year in high school football across the country. In 2015, 8 players have died due to on-the-field injuries.
- Tyrell Cameron of Franklin Parish High in Louisiana died after getting hit on a punt return on September 4th.
- Kenney Biu of Evergreen High in Seattle, died from “blunt force injuries,” according to the King County medical examiners office. He took multiple hard hits to the head during a game.
- Evan Murray of Warren Hills Regional High in New Jersey died September 25th after leaving a game when he felt woozy after a hit.
- Rod Williams of Burke County High in Georgia collapsed during football practice. He died September 22nd.
- Ben Hamm of Wesylan Christian School in Bartlesville, OK died after a head injury while being tackled. He passed away eight days after the game on September 19th.
- Cam’ron Matthew of Alto High in Texas collapsed on the sidelines. He had told teammates her felt dizzy. He died the day after the game.
- Andre Smith of Bogan High in Illinois suffered a head injury on the final play of a game on October 21st. He left the field and collapsed. He died the next day.
- Luke Schemm of Sharon Springs, KS scored a touchdown. On the ensuing two-point attempt, he was tackled. As he ran to the sidelines, he collapsed and died the next day.
11 players died in 2014 and 8 in 2013. Between 2005 and 2014, according to a study done by the National Center for Catastrophic Sports Injury Research at the University of North Carolina, 92 high school players died as a direct or indirect causes.
